After moving his franchise to Baltimore, and retaining contracts of former Browns players as well, owner Art Modell hired Ted Marchibroda, previously with the Baltimore Colts and Indianapolis Colts, as head coach. Ozzie Newsome, Browns tight end for the several years, joined Modell in Baltimore as director of football operations. Later promoted to Vice President/General Manager. Modell utilized several different forums to select a new name for his relocated club, including focus groups, a fan contest, and a telephone survey finally settling on "Ravens".
